TICA Apprenticeship Scheme

At PLG Insulations, we believe in the power of investing in our people.  The thermal insulation industry is a specialised field, and there is a growing demand for skilled professionals, especially as 1/3 of thermal insulation engineers are aged between 55-70 years.

Thanks to TICA, Thermal Insulation Contractors Association, we’re able to offer a comprehensive apprenticeship programme designed to cultivate the next generation of thermal insulation engineers.

We continually strive for excellence amongst our workforce, so training people to the highest standards is of upmost importance to us, but also the future careers of our engineers.

TICA Programme

TICA’s Thermal Insulation Apprenticeship is diverse, attracting individuals from various backgrounds, with an average age of 25 years. Over a period of 18 months, the programme combines college-based learning with practical on-site experience, equipping apprentices with both technical knowledge and essential skills as required to succeed in their job.

The Apprentice Journey at TICA

By regularly documenting their progress online, the review process allows the PLG team to stay closely integrated with the apprenticeship organisation and maintain consistent communication with the apprentices. Each apprentice is paired with one of our Senior Supervisors to provide mentorship and work assessments—an aspect we highly value.

The programme includes 50 days of intensive, college-based training completed in two-week blocks, ensuring apprentices achieve formal qualifications.  The remainder of the apprenticeship is completed on site, under the guidance of our highly trained Senior Supervisors.  After successful completion of the Level 2 Apprenticeship and being awarded with the Skilled Worker Skill Card, we actively encourage our employees to complete their Level 3 Apprenticeship over a further period of 12-18 months, which will result in them being awarded an Advanced Craft Skill Card.

Our Commitment

Guided by our passionate Administration Manager, Jackie Wall, we work closely with TICA, along with financial support from the CITB to ensure our apprentices receive top-tier training. The program not only focuses on our niche in industrial insulation for refrigeration plants but also extends to sectors like oil, gas, and power stations, providing a valuable opportunity to develop a broad range of skills.

We especially take great pride in seeing our apprentices excel in the field, with their outstanding work being recognised and rewarded by the exceptional TICA apprenticeship team.
